MISSION STATEMENT:

St. Luke's Parish is deeply rooted in the history of Sparrows Point, Edgemere, where it has faithfully served the people of God in a loving and caring manner. With the Eucharist as our source of unity, joy and strength; and evangelization as our goal, we are here to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, administer the Sacraments, provide Religious Education, recognize the diversity of our gifts and encourage their use, and provide for the temporal and total spiritual welfare of the Community. As a part of the universal Church, we work in unity with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and with the other Parishes of the Eastern Region.

WE EXTEND A CORDIAL WELCOME TO ALL!

St. Luke's Parrish History
In May of 1887 the Pennsylvania Steel Company purchased the property known as Sparrows Point, named after its original owner, Thomas Sparrow, who had received it from Lord Baltimore in 1652. On March 29, 1888, the Pennsylvania Steel Company leased a parcel of land for St. Luke's Church for the fee of $1.00 per year. St. Luke's is the oldest existing parish in the greater Dundalk Community. In 1880 there were just 111 parishioners in the parish. Today, more than 110 years later, the parish numbers approximately 1700.

St. Luke's was the last church to be demolished in the Sparrow's Point Community. The Church was closed in 1969 and demolished on November 16, 1973. Property was obtained in Edgemere where the present school building was erected. It opened on September 6, 1962. With the closure of the old church at Sparrows Point, Religious services were then held in the school hall.

Over 11 years ago the school was forced to close and merge with Our Lady of Hope, due to the small enrollment. Fr. Mark Logue, the pastor at the time, did a great job in changing the school hall into a permanent church which still serves as St. Luke's Church. Today, St. Luke's is still a thriving parish.
